Why Am I Helping Chinatown?
I am a South Korean artist, inspired by New York City's subway art in the 80s. Today my work has matured into photorealistic aerosol street art.
My goal is to leverage muralism's high visibility to amplify voices of marginalized communities.
I want to help revitalize Chinatown, because my parents endured so much pain to provide me with the privileges I have today. I see parallels between their struggles and those of Chinatown's forebears, who experienced exclusion and loneliness due to federal legislation and racism.
I also aim to set an example of what it means to be an Asian-Canadian in the context of settling on Indigenous lands.
